The Kentucky Twisters played at Monaghans in Oakland

The Twisters stormed Monaghan’s On The Hill in the Oakland last night.   We played on the patio on a beautiful evening.  If you have never been to Monaghan’s (monaghans-onthehill.com) we highly recommend it.  Nice atmosphere and friendly.  Good to see friends and new faces enjoying the music in a relaxed setting with good food.

Atlas shrugged when The Kentucky Twisters asked to appear there again on 8/11/11 and gave the existential universal answer.. “why not?”

Okay, no Sartre, Ayn Rand or Rand as in Paul intended.  The Kentucky Twisters Bluegrass Band will appear at the Atlas Cafe in San Francisco at 8:00 PM, 8/11/11.  We like the Atlas cafe as do our friends.  So come on down if you can make it.

The Kentucky Twisters Bluegrass Band at the Atlas Cafe, June 9, 2011

Well folks, we are heading to Grass Valley next week but thanks to the Atlas, we have one more appearance before the Father’s Day California Bluegrass Association main event.  Stop by and see the Twisters on Thursday 6/9.  The Atlas has good eats, libations and a barely perceivable edge, the last part being sort of like the Twisters.

The Kentucky Twisters Bluegrass – Martin Mack’s, San Francisco, Mother’s Day 2011

We came, we played, had a great time.  This is a really cool hangout in the Haight, as in Haight Ashbury nearest cross street… Clayton.  The San Francisco Giants swept the Rockies on their way to another great season (okay, I know it isn’t June Swoon yet) but heartening nonetheless.  Thanks again to Brian at Martin Mack’s for inviting us to play and a special hello to all the AOH’rs hanging out there.

The Kentucky Twisters Back at Martin Mack’s in San Francisco – May 8, 2011 4-7 PM

The Twisters are mighty pleased to be playing at Martin Mack’s in the Haight from 4-7.  Yes we know it is Mother’s Day, but Moms like bluegrass, good food, and libations too.  Stop by.

Frog and Fiddle, Alameda, California

The Twisters are pleased to be playing at the Alameda’s newest bluegrass venue, The Frog and Fiddle.  As they say on the Antiques Roadshow, it pays to have provenance, and the Frog and Fiddle definitely has provenance.  Just a stone’s throw away from older brother (or is it sister?) McGrath’s Pub, the Frog and Fiddle began a regular bluegrass jam on Thursday evenings, replacing the Monday McGrath’s jam.

Some fine bands have already played at the F&F and we were pleased to be asked to play.

The Kentucky Twisters will be playing at the F&F on April 23, 2011 at 8:00 PM.  We are looking forward to playing at the new venue.

The Kentucky Twisters Bluegrass Band at Martin Mack’s in the Haight

It was a dark and stormy afternoon on Saturday March 19, 2011.  Jimbo Trout arranged a gig for the Kentucky Twisters on short notice.  Frank Holmes sent out the alert and we were all good to go.  We had not played at the pub before but had heard good things.  To the uninitiated, parking can be intimidating but since I hang out in the neighborhood quite a bit, it isn’t a problem.  If you have seen music at Martin Mack you know that if there are more than 3 musicians, it is a squeeze, and with 6 of us present, it was a real squeeze but we made it work.  First, a big thank you to owner Brian and the staff.  They are a musician friendly bunch and run a great establishment.

Cho Nishi hauled his bass (maybe paddled from Oakland) to the corner and we had 3 great sets.

Jim Hyatt from the Berkeley Fifth String showed and gave us some sound system pointers that are always welcome.

We look forward to playing at Martin Macks in the future.

Kentucky Twister’s on Vern’s Stage

Thanks to Russ Greenspan for the following you tube video:  Kentucky Twisters at Grass Valley 2010

Well, it was a peak experience for us. A very supportive crowd with many friends in attendance made the set more fun. Thanks again to Dave Zimmerman and the CBA for inviting us to play.
